What happens

In the cheap section of a city, a man is struck and killed by a car at night, and two boarding-house owners, Albert and Carolyn Craig, find his pocket stuffed with money. The Craigs are a stingy couple who have been squeezing their borders over rent, electricity and cream, and the dead man, Mr. Sedgwick, owed them rent. Their boarder, Mr. Campion, has been complaining about the house and noticing their odd behavior. The Craigs take the money home and hide it, while Campion is drawn into the household's troubles. The Whistler series, a radio drama, is presented here as part of its original broadcast with a Signal Oil sponsorship.

A cheap boarding house in a city, and the dark streets and alley around it, at night.

Characters: Albert Craig, Carolyn Craig, Mr. Sedgwick, Mr. Campion, Miss Barton, Officer McCarthy

Listen for: Listen for the Craigs' greed as they find money in the dead man's pocket and decide to hide it from their boarder Mr. Campion.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
