What happens
Eddie Stecko, out on bail while facing a murder charge brought by District Attorney Matthews, learns that a meek hardware-store owner named Oliver Littlefield looks almost exactly like him. Eddie and his friend Dutch Watson begin studying Littlefield's life, his wife Cynthia, his finances and his acquaintances. The Whistler series aired on 1945-12-31, and this episode is narrated with the usual dramatic opening, with the Whistler's voice presenting the case from the shadows. The story is set in the town of Wilmont and in the city, and the plan takes shape as Eddie prepares to take Littlefield's place.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
