What happens
Steve Conant, a respected attorney, secretly serves as the front for his half-brother Johnny Conant, a racketeer, while also carrying on a romance with Johnny's sweetheart, Edna Watkins. When rival gang boss Buzz Tolman is killed and Johnny is arrested, Steve publicly distances himself from his brother to protect his reputation. Steve then grows uneasy about the danger of the arrangement and the risk Edna poses to him. Steve weighs his options as tensions rise between the three of them, with a small black book of records at the center of his concerns. The story is part of The Whistler radio series, first broadcast on July 10, 1949.
A city where racketeering is run from apartments and back alleys, including a cottage at West Beach and Steve's apartment.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
