What happens

Attorney Steve Conant is drawn into the criminal world when his half-brother Johnny Conant, a rising racketeer, is arrested for the murder of rival gang boss Buzz Tolman. Steve, who has secretly served as the respectable front for Johnny's operations, worries that his reputation and his safety are at stake. Torn between his fear of exposure and his entanglement with Johnny's sweetheart, Edna Watson, Steve begins to weigh his options carefully. The episode is part of the long-running radio series The Whistler, which Signal Oil sponsored, and its leads are not named in the transcript so none are given here.

A city and its surrounding area, including West Beach, a police headquarters, an apartment building and a darkened cottage.

Characters: Steve Conant, Johnny Conant, Edna Watson, Lieutenant Haley, Buzz Tolman, Lou, Sid

Listen for: Steve Conant's alarm as he realises Johnny suspects his double dealing, and Edna's shifting loyalties.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
