What happens
Henry Pettigrew, a bookseller with a fondness for criminology, notices that a month of local deaths falls on streets in alphabetical order and suspects the next target is Mulberry Street. He discusses his theory with his friend, Lieutenant Perez, who is amused but takes note. Henry's quarrel with Arnold Fenway, who objects to his courtship of Mary Ellen Fenway, adds to the growing tension on the quiet street. Arnold has vanished, and Mary Ellen's account of her whereabouts that night becomes suspicious to the police and to Henry. This is a Whistler episode from the Signal Oil program, first broadcast July 3, 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
