What happens
Jeff Denning, who runs a waterfront shop on Pier 9, learns that his friend Dave Angela has been found drowned. Jeff recruits Steve Curtis, a salvage diver, to help him raise a fortune in gold from a sunken schooner. Jeff is also drawn to Faye Atkins, a singer at the Red Angel Cafe, and he begins to resent Steve's growing closeness with her. Their search takes them out to sea aboard Captain Thorpe's boat, where the partners prepare to descend to the wreck and Jeff's motives grow increasingly tense.
