What happens
Joe Cannon, a small-time operator who runs illicit deals out of Los Angeles cocktail bars, meets a blonde woman named Mary Cartney at a roadside bar and later finds her dead in the back of his car, with her handbag holding $5,000 beside him. Panicking, he drives on toward San Diego, disposes of the body, and tries to make sense of the events. A stranger in a hotel coffee shop claims the money and reveals that a valuable painting is involved. The episode is part of The Whistler, a mystery series heard on CBS, first broadcast on April 2, 1950. Gerald Moore, Francis Robinson and Larry Dobkin appear in the cast.

Listen for: The sound of the Whistler's whistle that opens and closes the program
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
