What happens

Michael Cobb, a former convict working as an employee at a department store, is dismissed on the day before Christmas after a series of cash thefts. Angry and certain no one will believe his innocence, Mike goes back to the store after closing with the intention of stealing jewelry and furs. His wife Elaine and the police are soon drawn into the search for him. The Whistler series, first broadcast on December 21, 1952, presents this tale with an opening that promises an unsettling story about the thin line between good and evil.

A department store in the days before Christmas, and a small antique shop on Tenth Avenue

Characters: Michael Cobb, Elaine, Humboldt, George Osborn, Gus, Mr. Samuel, Lieutenant Drisco

Listen for: Mike's decision in the locker room, and the music box that gives him away

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
