What happens

Roger Wicksen, a radio announcer, is trapped in a bitter marriage to Tisha and resolves to kill her. He takes a job alongside an engineer, Vern Cummings, whose past he recognizes, and he works out how to be heard on the air while he is supposedly elsewhere. The Whistler, a long-running Pacific Coast radio drama sponsored by Signal Oil, presents the story as part of its Sunday broadcast on September 11, 1949. Frank Nelson, Mary Lansing and William Conrad are the lead actors. This guide covers only the first part of the episode.

San Francisco, a radio station and a country club, 1949

Characters: Roger Wicksen, Tisha, Vern Cummings, Trent Crandall, Jerry Edwards, Mr. Gladney, Lieutenant Krasner

Listen for: Roger's recorded announcement played at the station break, and the sound of the radio in Tisha's apartment

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
