What happens
Ellen Lovelock, secretary to the sharp-tongued Miss Whitehead, is dismissed after a dispute over a prowler who entered the house at night. Ellen and her accomplice Matt plot to steal a set of valuable paintings from the house and sell them in Paris, and they decide that the handyman Henry Macklin, who has a prison record, will serve as the obvious suspect. The Whistler series, first broadcast on September 18, 1949, presents this story in the form of a radio drama, and its cast includes Peggy Weber and John Hoyt. The story follows Ellen as she moves ahead with the scheme and tries to keep Henry involved in it.
A village on the English Channel coast, near the cliffs above the sea, including Miss Whitehead's house and the village constable's office.

Listen for: Miss Whitehead's sharp dismissal of Ellen and Ellen's first talks with Henry about the paintings.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
