The story is part of The Whistler radio series, first broadcast on January 27, 1952.

Hong Kong, early 1950s, with flashbacks to Calcutta and a passenger ship arrival at the harbour

Characters: Craig McElvie, Alphonse Selendrum, Frank Parksley, Timothy Ames, Inspector Wilson

Listen for: Selendrum's offer of fifty thousand dollars for a false dispatch, and McElvie's sudden change of plans after his editor's cable

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
