What happens
Victor Milton is a young American in London who kills John Greenwood, a stranger, during a robbery in a dark Leeds telephone booth. Victor takes the dead man's wallet and gun and boards a train, where he meets John's sister, Hillary Greenwood. Her father, Wilfred Greenwood, becomes a respected acquaintance of Victor, and Victor begins to court Hillary. This is an episode of The Whistler, first broadcast on November 26, 1947, on the CBS program.
Foggy London and Leeds, England, late 1940s; a Scotland Yard investigation at Billingsgate dock; the Greenwood family home and a London trucking business.
Characters: Victor Milton, John Greenwood, Hillary Greenwood, Wilfred Greenwood, Tuppy Greenwood, Peterson
Listen for: The Whistler's opening, then Victor's discovery of the identification from John's coat and the Greenwood family's grief.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
