What happens

Paul Cartmel, a dancer with Cecil Benham's ballet company, celebrates a triumphant opening night in Philadelphia, only to learn that the company's new choreographer is Catherine Valadon, a woman he knew from London. Their past rivalry flares up again as Catherine takes control of the company and begins to press her grievances against him. Paul struggles to assert himself while Catherine appears to plan a new and dangerous performance for him. The story follows the tense relationship between the two as the company tours westward.

Philadelphia, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Chicago, Denver, and San Francisco, in the era of a traveling ballet company.

Characters: Paul Cartmel, Cecil Benham, Catherine Valadon, Eric Ballard, Brady, Mr. Venom

Listen for: Catherine's black book of appointments and the change in its schedule near the end.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
