What happens

Sidney Shelton, a Hollywood publicity agent, is sent east by Mammoth Studios after a falling-out with his former client Sheila Martin, who is traveling on the same train. Sidney steals money from her bag, flies ahead to New York, and tries to sign the fading silent-era star Norman Hale to a film deal before producer E.J. Payton can. Sidney sees a chance to stage a publicity stunt around Hale and approaches Payton with a deal, while Sheila turns up in New York, unhappy and desperate. The Whistler series, first aired in 1951, is narrated by its mysterious host, and the cast includes Wally Mayer and Virginia Gregg.

A cross-country streamliner train, then New York City, including an apartment, a restaurant and a hotel.

Characters: Sidney Shelton, Sheila Martin, Norman Hale, E.J. Payton, Jim Fergus

Listen for: Sidney's dealings with Sheila on the train and his scheme to sign Norman Hale for a film deal.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
