What happens

Tom Bradford, a middle-aged rancher, quarrels bitterly with his stepson Ralph and Ralph's wife Vera, whom he wants gone from the ranch. Ralph, a bank teller, has secretly borrowed two thousand dollars from his employer to cover poker debts, and an audit is coming. Ralph and Vera return to the ranch to ask Tom's wife Mary for money. Tom is later found dead in his bed, and a threat from a neighbour, Philip Miller, makes him the obvious suspect. The transcript ends before the investigation is resolved.

A ranch a few miles out of town, and a bank in the town, in the United States around 1942.

Characters: Tom Bradford, Mary Bradford, Ralph Darling, Vera Darling, Philip Miller, Herb, Norm, Sheriff

Listen for: Tom's fierce quarrel with Ralph and Vera, and the sudden discovery of Tom's body.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
