What happens

John Abbott, a gambler who lives in a house that belongs to his wife Marsha, owes four thousand dollars on a worthless check to Mike Flynn, who gives him until Saturday noon to pay. When Marsha refuses to help him, John's brother Alan and Marsha's sister Nita are drawn into the household's tensions. Marsha falls ill, and Dr. Manning tells the family that her condition is serious. The Whistler's story unfolds in the Abbott house as the family's relationships and money troubles grow more strained.

A vast house on the outskirts of town, and the gambling rooms of Mike Flynn's office in the city

Characters: John Abbott, Marsha Abbott, Mike Flynn, Alan Abbott, Nita, Ellen Abbott, Dr. Manning, Mrs. Simmons

Listen for: The check John gave Mike Flynn, Marsha's refusal to lend him the money, and Dr. Manning's warning to the family about Marsha's health

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
