What happens
Tarzan, the jungle man raised by apes, studies a letter from Jane Porter, finding in her name a new sense of kinship. At sunset, Jane and her companion Cecil Clayton walk toward the headland to check a beacon. Tarzan follows them through the trees, drawn to the white woman but unsure how to approach his own kind. Professor Porter and Philando discuss a child's skeleton they have found, and the professor keeps returning to the strange drumming that has begun in the jungle. Tarzan then listens to the drums and is pulled toward the ape tribe's ceremony. This is the Tarzan series, first broadcast on October 5, 1932.
A jungle clearing and beach in Africa, with a hut by the shore, the headland, and the ape tribe's drum-circle in the forest.
Characters: Tarzan, Jane Porter, Cecil Clayton, Professor Porter, Philando
Listen for: The steady drumming that grows through the episode, and the moment Tarzan turns from the white visitors toward the apes' ceremony.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
