What happens
Tarzan presides over a meeting of the apes in the forest, settling a quarrel between the mates Tana and Guntor. He then asks the tribe about a sullen ape who has recently killed one of Volcanis's tribe and is now missing, but no one can tell him where it has gone. Meanwhile Jane Porter, her father Professor Porter, Clayton and Philander discuss the ape man who killed an animal and left it at their hut. Later, Jane and her father go in search of fruit, and the bull ape Turquoise, who has been wandering with pent-up anger, follows them from the trees.
