What happens
Ed Bliss returns from a bus trip to find his wife, Janet, has walked out after a quarrel, and he traces her to the Alden home in Westhampton. Her mother and stepfather seem evasive and the house feels wrong to him. A detective, Stillman, confronts Bliss, and the two men head to Westhampton together to search the house. Bliss, an architect, notices something off about the living room. The story is presented as a 1946 episode of the CBS radio series Suspense, with Robert Young starring, and was first broadcast on September 5, 1946.
A town in America in 1946, including Ed and Janet's home, the bus station, and the Alden house in Westhampton.
Characters: Ed Bliss, Janet Bliss, Detective Stillman, Joe Alden, Mrs. Alden, Laura
Listen for: Listen for the moment Bliss notices the living room is lopsided, and for Stillman's questions about the locked back room.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
