What happens

Bert Clexton, an insurance accountant, sees his close friend Randy Stoneman leave the back door of Riley's Grill at 5:45 in the evening, and he is later asked to tell police what he saw. Randy is arrested after Tom Riley is shot and left in a coma, and Bert is caught between his loyalty to Randy and his sense of duty. His wife Linda and Randy's wife Kay add to the pressure as Bert struggles with what he knows. Ronald Dawson wrote the story, adapted from a tale by Anne Howard B. Leibt, and it aired on Suspense on October 9, 1960. Frank Thomas Jr. plays Bert Clexton and William Redfield plays Randy Stoneman.

A city in the late 1950s or early 1960s, including the apartment building where Bert and Randy live, Riley's Grill, a police headquarters, the district attorney's office, and a courtroom.

Listen for: Bert's testimony in court and how he decides what to say about the time he saw Randy leave Riley's Grill.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
