What happens
Lester and Sheila are driving across the desert when they stop on a dirt mining road for a picnic and some photographs. While they are away from the car, the keys go missing and the sun begins to beat down on the vehicle. Two prospecting men, Bates and Gandy, are also in the hills, and their intentions toward the couple become clearer as the day wears on. The couple must decide whether to trust the men and how to survive the heat without water. This is the Suspense episode Inferno, written by Peter Fernandez and first broadcast on October 16, 1960. Ellen McCray plays Sheila, Richard Holland plays Lester, Mandel Kramer plays Bates, and Robert Dryden plays Gandy.
A desert highway and a dirt mining road in the hills, in the afternoon heat and into the night.
Characters: Sheila, Lester, Bates, Gandy
Listen for: The couple's fear of the desert heat and their growing suspicion of the two men in the hills.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
