What happens

Helen Rhodes, who lives alone in a penthouse on the eighteenth floor of an office building, becomes convinced that Tom Nixon, the convicted killer she testified against ten years earlier, is working as her building's night elevator operator. Tom had sworn to get even with her. Rhodes visits Warden Graves at the state penitentiary, hoping for help. In Suspense's 1960 broadcast of Night Man, written by Lucille Fletcher, Rhodes's fear grows as the elevator operator's behavior seems increasingly menacing.

A maximum security prison and an office building in New York City, with a penthouse apartment and an elevator

Characters: Helen Rhodes, Warden Graves, Tom Nixon, Charles

Listen for: Rhodes's account of seeing Tom Nixon in the elevator, and the warden's response to her fears

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
