What happens

Barty McLean, a recovering office worker, takes sleeping pills by mistake while working late in the Nugent Building. Groggy and disoriented, he wakes in the empty office at two in the morning and begins to realize that something is badly wrong. He hears a whistle from the elevator, glimpses flashlights on the loading platform, and overhears a violent quarrel. As he tries to phone for the police, he is caught and forced into a confrontation with the men inside the building. This is an episode of the radio series Suspense, first broadcast on May 25, 1950, with Dennis O'Keefe in the lead.

The Nugent Building, an office block in the city, late at night and in the early hours of the morning

Characters: Barty McLean, Eddie, Ferris, Gilman, Katherine Warren, Herman, Albert, Joe

Listen for: The whistling of the elevator boy Eddie, the flashlights on the loading platform, and the heated argument overheard on the fifth floor

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
