What happens
Philip Trent, a journalist and amateur detective, is sent to Bishop's Bridge by the London Record to cover the shooting of financier Sigsbee Manderson. Trent's uncle-in-law, Mr. Couples, has a personal interest in the case, and Trent soon meets the dead man's secretary, John Marlow, near the scene. Inspector Murch believes the killing was the work of a stranger, but Trent notices odd details, including the untied shoes and the unusual choice of footwear. As he questions the household and examines the evidence, he begins to form suspicions that he keeps to himself. The broadcast is an adaptation of E. C. Bentley's novel, performed on the CBS series Suspense in December 1953.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
