What happens

Carstairs Hamilton, the drummer for the Windy City Six, a jazz band playing a Chicago club called the High Hat in the 1920s, notices a young woman, Cora, staring at him from table 13. Soon a gangster warns him to keep away from her, and after he witnesses a brutal killing in a hallway, Cora appears at his rooming house and asks him to take her out of town. Hamilton reluctantly agrees, and the two set off through a snowstorm toward a country estate owned by a dangerous man named Big Mike Donovan.

Chicago in the 1920s, the High Hat club, and a snowbound private estate called Haywill Manor near the town of Northbury.

Characters: Carstairs Hamilton, Cora, Big Mike Donovan, Thurber Jones, Bull Hurley, Red Rocks Farrell, Corny Peters, Rip Jackson

Listen for: The sound of the band's drums and clarinet at the High Hat and the party, and the tense exchanges between Hamilton and Cora as they drive through the snow.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
