What happens

Columnist Darcy, a society writer for the Morning Post, is visited by Father Walsh, an old school friend who reports that a stranger has demanded two bibles and threatened him over the walls of Jericho. The next evening Darcy goes to see the priest and finds him dead, hanged in his study. Darcy then tracks down a dealer in rare books, a woman claiming to represent a client, and the investigation draws him into a search for a hidden painting. The episode is from the Suspense radio series, first broadcast on June 29, 1944, and starring Keenan Wynn.

Mid-twentieth-century New York City, including a Catholic parish church, Darcy's newspaper office and apartment, and a Greenwich Village street.

Characters: Darcy, Father Walsh, Susan Finch, Catherine Walsh, Ernst Helms, Patricia Beren, Captain Griffin, Detective Lucas

Listen for: The clue of the two Bibles and the underlined words in the Book of Joshua, which point Darcy toward the mural.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
