What happens

Claire Foley returns to the small coastal house where her estranged sister Adele has lived alone for years, after her son Doug and his friend Roy stumble upon it during a beach outing. Claire has been acquitted of her husband's murder, and the house holds a grim, troubled atmosphere that Adele seems to be guarding. Claire wants to reconcile with her sister and help her, but the memories of the girls' childhood promise between them keep surfacing. The story is adapted from a play by Mel Denelli and presented on the Suspense series, with Joan Crawford starring, as broadcast on June 2, 1949.

A run-down house on a deserted stretch of coast, with a garden gone to ruin and a kerosene lamp, and the courtroom and European years that came before.

Characters: Claire Foley, Adele, Doug Foley, Roy, Douglas Foley

Listen for: Adele's shifting moods, the childhood promise the sisters made to each other, and what Claire finds in the bedroom.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
