What happens

Phil Brandon is a bookie who has refused to join the syndicate that runs the local betting, and he insists on working independently. After a losing day, he discovers he owes a large sum he cannot pay, and his wife Eileen and his associate Marty Adkins are drawn into his troubles. Phil's old partner Lefty Ruddock and a stable boy named Lester Callan also figure in the pursuit of a tip on a horse race. Phil tries to borrow money and find a way out, but the syndicate's pressure closes in, and he begins to realize that his judgment about people has failed him as badly as his judgment about horses. The story is a radio drama from Suspense, broadcast on November 11, 1954, starring Vic Perrin.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
