What happens

Captain John Delbrey, a French officer, is brought before the Spanish Inquisition and charged after his artillery destroyed the Church of Santa Marta. Imprisoned in a dark dungeon, he is bound to a wooden frame over a deep circular pit, and he hears the voice of his wife, Beatrice, speaking to him. Rats gnaw at his bandages while a great pendulum descends slowly toward his chest. The series is Suspense, and this episode aired on June 7, 1959, starring Raymond Burr.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
