What happens

On New Year's Eve in New York, a cab driver named Walton picks up an elderly man in a costume wig and sandals, who says he may not retire. The man's employer, the Director, is furious that the aging figure refuses to step aside, and sends staff searching the city for him. The old man, who personifies the passing year, meets a cab driver and the director's assistants, and the story turns on what the year has meant to the people around him. This Suspense drama, broadcast on December 31, 1961, stars Leon Janni in the title role, with Reynolds Osborne as the Director, and was written for the series by Bob Cochran.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
