What happens

Sam Newcomb, a stowaway, boards the brigantine Marie Celeste in New York Harbor on the eve of its departure in 1872, after a murder ashore. Aboard, the captain and his wife question him, and his tense exchanges with the deckhand Hubbard grow more hostile. Newcomb's troubled memories of the killing and his fear of revealing them in his sleep keep him on edge throughout the voyage. Suspense, a CBS radio series, first aired this episode on June 8, 1953, with Van Heflin in the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
