What happens

Six climbers attempt the peak of an unclimbed mountain on the East Glacier, 22,000 feet above sea level. Thomas, Feldman, Eldridge, Games, Perucci and the narrator set out from Camp Four, and the group quickly strains under cold, altitude and disagreement. Their assault goes badly from the start, with the climb marked by a crevasse, a fall and growing tension between the men. Starring Harley Bear and Ben Wright, this is the Suspense play "The Mountain," first broadcast November 1, 1955.

The East Glacier and the upper slopes of an unclimbed mountain, from Camp Four at 22,000 feet onward.

Characters: Thomas, Feldman, Eldridge, Games, Perucci, Narrator

Listen for: The tense exchanges over the rope at the crevasse edge, and the narrator's growing unease as Eldridge's behavior changes.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
