What happens

Commander Richard is sent to Naval Base Charlie to investigate after the first atomic submarine, the X-915, is about to begin its trial runs. Admiral Corothers tells him that a periscope was damaged during installation, and that the crane cable which dropped it had been designed to hold far more weight than the periscope. Suspicion falls on the base's 307 workers, all of whom have been living behind barbed wire for six months. During a test run, the X-915 stops responding to radio messages, and the navy begins to consider that the submarine may have fallen into enemy hands. This recap covers the opening of the story only.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
