What happens

Thomas Shaw, a sign-board fixer, and his foreman Bert Chin discover the body of a young woman, Anna Leeming, in an empty shop. Shaw says a stranger in plus-fours had been given the shop keys the day before, but the owner denies leasing the premises. Shaw is accused and later confesses to the murder, only to be acquitted at trial. Years later the story continues with a second confession. This episode of Suspense, the radio series, was first broadcast on November 15, 1955, starring Ben Wright.

A shop at number 75 Bongro, and later the courts and flats of an English city.

Characters: Thomas Shaw, Bert Chin, Anna Leeming, Inspector Osborne, Peggy, Harriet Vaugham, Edward Beckett

Listen for: Shaw's conflicting accounts of the stranger in plus-fours, and the courtroom exchanges about his two confessions.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
