What happens

Johnny Dillinger, a notorious bank robber, breaks out of jail with a fellow prisoner, Annie, and forces a young hostage, Ernie, to aid their escape. On the run, Dillinger stops at a roadhouse where waitress Molly Kelly sees through his disguise, and he later seeks a plastic surgeon to alter his face. Dillinger wants to avoid detection and believes a new appearance will let him escape the law. Anna Sage, who knows where he is, becomes central as the pressure of the manhunt builds. This Suspense episode, broadcast on May 10, 1954, stars Van Heflin in the title role.

Late 1933 and early 1934 across Indiana, Wisconsin and Chicago, including a jail, a roadhouse, a surgeon's office and a movie theater.

Listen for: Dillinger's unnerving talk with the hostage Ernie and his cool, menacing exchanges with the waitress Molly.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
