What happens

Roger Adams, a struggling pulp writer in Los Angeles, lives in a shabby apartment house and cannot write anything. Hearing a beautiful woman's singing from the apartment above, he is drawn to learn who she is. His neighbor, the elderly Mr. Steinmetz, insists that his wife is dead and that no woman lives there. Adams breaks into the apartment and makes a series of strange discoveries, which lead him to confront the police and the landlady. Suspense is the series name; the episode aired on November 6, 1960. Cast members named in the closing credits include Elizabeth Lawrence and John Gibson.

Los Angeles, a run-down apartment house in Hollywood, one hot August

Characters: Roger Adams, Mr. Steinmetz, Mrs. Snyder

Listen for: The singing voice from the apartment upstairs, and Adams's growing suspicion about Mr. Steinmetz's lies

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
