What happens

Herbert and Ethel Hesher, an American couple touring Mecca, meet a sinister fortune teller who warns them of a curse. Ethel is drawn to a small green idol in the shop of Al Hamid, a dealer who insists the figure is sacred and must not be sold to unbelievers. Herbert buys it anyway after a heated bargain, and the two leave with the idol. Their dismissive attitude toward the warnings sets the tension for the evening that follows. This episode of Suspense, written by Jack Bundy, stars Parker Fennelly.

Mecca, Arabia, present day

Characters: Herbert Hesher, Ethel Hesher, Dr. Etherington, Al Hamid, Fortune Teller

Listen for: The warning from Al Hamid about the idol of Ramkar, and Herbert's refusal to take it seriously.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
