What happens
Two young men, Penn and Red, pass a summer afternoon together in a town street and then in an empty white house. Red dares Penn to play Russian roulette with a revolver containing a single bullet, and the game grows more dangerous as both boys drink and their friendship is tested. The story is presented as a suspense play on the CBS radio series Suspense, first broadcast on March 15, 1955, starring Sam Edwards and Gil Stratton Jr. The transcript covers the play's early section, and the boys' conversation and the escalating dare form the core of the drama.
A small town in summer, including a corner of Maine and Elm streets and an empty white house with ship pictures and maps on its walls.
Characters: Penn, Red
Listen for: The dare Red proposes and the tension that builds as the boys drink and take turns with the gun.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
