What happens

Suspense presents The Cellar, first broadcast on March 22, 1955, starring Eric Snowden. A man named Gourley, who has been married for twenty years to a wife he finds unbearable, plans to get rid of her and talks with her in the cellar of their house. The transcript shows him bringing her down there, speaking bitterly about her habits and his life with her, and beginning to act on his plan. He then goes to the bank, withdraws his savings, and returns home, where a policeman is waiting outside his door.

A London house, its cellar, and a bank in the city.

Characters: Gourley, Millie, Aggie Jones, Mrs. Crill, Mr. Force, Constable

Listen for: Gourley's rising anger toward his wife, and the policeman's questions at his door when he returns home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
