What happens
Nick Crawford returns home to Easton after the war to find his brother-in-law Johnny Stewart has been shot dead on a street corner. Nick learns that witnesses are being threatened and that the town seems gripped by fear. He begins asking questions of the local people and of the businessman Osborn, testing who in Easton is still willing to speak. The story is presented on the Suspense radio series, broadcast on 1952-11-10, with Frank Lovejoy in the lead role.
Easton, a small town in autumn, with quiet residential streets, a main street, a police station and a drugstore on the corner
Characters: Nick Crawford, Jane, Johnny Stewart, Osborn, Mr. Crawford, Mrs. Mason, Tom Ruxter, Hazel
Listen for: Nick's confrontation with Osborn in the office and his phone call to St. Louis near the end of the episode
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
