What happens

Lizanne Stefanson answers a newspaper advertisement for a beautiful girl willing to face danger, and is hired by Bill Volker and his associate Hugh King. They ask her to befriend Lance Villiers, a piano player at Jim and Jack's nightclub whom they believe is the second son of the late Knut Villiers, the Swedish nickel king known as the Cross-Eyed Bear. The old man's will divided a three-million-dollar check into three torn pieces, one for each son, and the men suspect a deadly contest over it. Lizanne sets out to win Lance's trust while the men watch from nearby. The series is Suspense, and the episode was first broadcast on September 16, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
