What happens

Philip Alden, a lawyer on Cape Cod, becomes uneasy about his new acquaintances Lettie and Mark Taylor. Lettie Hawthorne, a fearful widow, has married Mark Taylor, a younger and charming newcomer to the Cape. After the couple ask Philip to draw up wills leaving their property to each other, Philip grows suspicious of Mark. Lettie seems increasingly frightened, and a quarrel over rat poison and an illness follow. Philip is drawn into their household and begins to piece together what is happening between them. Suspense is played by Lillian Gish as Lettie, Ray Collins as Philip, and Bramwell Fletcher as Mark.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
