What happens
Nunez, a mountain guide, has fallen from a ledge high on Mount Parisc\u00f3te Petel and is believed dead. Years later he reaches a mine in the Andes, where Senor Cartwright, the superintendent, last saw him. Nunez explains that he survived the fall by sliding down an avalanche into a hidden valley whose people have been blind for generations. Cartwright hears how Nunez found himself among them, where his ability to see made him an outsider. The episode, a dramatization of H. G. Wells' story, is part of the Suspense series and aired on 1957-10-27 with Raymond Burr in the lead.
A high mine in the Andes above Quito, and a hidden valley in the mountains where the inhabitants have been blind for centuries.
Characters: Nunez, Senor Cartwright, Medina Sarote, Pedro
Listen for: Nunez describing the valley and its people, and what they make of his ability to see.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
