What happens

Mrs. Stevenson, an invalid alone in her house while her husband works late, tries to reach him by telephone and is cut into a wrong-number call. There she overhears two men planning a murder of a woman living alone near a bridge that night at eleven fifteen. She calls the operator and then the police, but no one takes her warning seriously, and her growing fear and isolation build as the clock moves toward eleven. This revival of Lucille Fletcher's play is part of the Suspense series, first broadcast on October 20, 1957, and stars Agnes Moorhead in the leading role. Its tension rests on Mrs. Stevenson's desperate attempts to make someone believe her.

A telephone switchboard and a house in New York City, late in the evening.

Characters: Mrs. Stevenson, Mr. Stevenson, the operator, the supervisor, the police

Listen for: Mrs. Stevenson's repeated calls to the operator and police, and the sound of the telephone ringing as the clock nears eleven.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
