What happens
Lois Simpson and her invalid mother, Mrs. Benson, are left alone in a country house during a storm while Lois's husband, Kent, is away on business. They hire Miss Lord, a stranger recommended by a friend, to stay with them. Lois grows uneasy about the quiet, watchful woman, and the household's telephone line goes dead. Mrs. Benson and Lois begin to suspect that Miss Lord means them harm, and the two women try to protect themselves. The episode is part of the Suspense series, which aired on November 15, 1959, with Elizabeth Lawrence, Virginia Payne and Rita Lloyd in the cast. The events that follow are not described here.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
