What happens

Leonora Carpenter, whose husband George is a cold and unfaithful man, sends a chain letter to Peter Kuchatsky, a foreign handyman employed by the Reynolds couple, and a copy to George's secretary, Betty Holden. The letter warns that breaking the chain brings evil, and soon Kuchatsky's wife dies and he blames Leonora. Enraged, he confronts her at her home, and she fires George's revolver at him to drive him off. The police release him on a minor charge, and Leonora, alone in the storm-battered house, waits in fear as the river rises and the bridge washes out.

A country house on a hill above a river, outside a small town, in the present day.

Characters: Leonora Carpenter, George Carpenter, Peter Kuchatsky, Abby Reynolds, Bert Reynolds, Betty Holden, Lieutenant Marsh

Listen for: Leonora's rising panic as the storm cuts off the house, and the knock at the door that follows her phone call to George.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
