What happens
Scott Turner, an American artist visiting Trinidad, takes a bet from sugar planter Paul Barton: he will keep a routine laboratory job for two years in exchange for $50,000. Over the months of rain, Barton's wife Ada grows close to Scott and begins pressing him to help her plan something against her husband. As the wager and their tensions develop, Scott is drawn into a dangerous situation on the island, and the story builds toward a tense meal at the Barton house. This is the 1945 Suspense play The Bet, broadcast on November 8, 1945, starring Lee J. Cobb.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
