What happens

Alan Pierce, a famous Washington political columnist, returns to his hometown and checks into Belden General Hospital after a heart attack. He has promised to expose the contents of the Argyle album, a secret that has been building in his columns. When Pierce is found dead, with a surgeon's scalpel in his chest, reporter Harry Mitchell of the Herald takes charge of the story and begins his own investigation, which leads him through the dead man's secretary, a mysterious woman named Marla, and a junkyard owner named George Broad. Presented on Suspense, the radio thriller series, the play was broadcast on December 13, 1945, and stars Robert Taylor.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
