What happens

A group of U.S. Marines waits in a shed on a Wellington, New Zealand pier, listening to Tokyo Rose on a Red Cross radio and trading jokes and nerves. Sergeant Odie and private Les are among them as their transport sails out with a huge task force. They learn their objective is Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands, a fortified atoll with strong pillboxes and an airstrip. Days of study and waiting follow until the landing craft head for beach red. Suspense, 1957-05-12, starring John Lund.

Wellington, New Zealand, and aboard a troop transport heading to Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands during World War II

Characters: Odie, Les, Shorty, Mike, Tokyo Rose

Listen for: The chatter about Tokyo Rose on the Red Cross radio and the sudden quiet before the landing on beach red

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
