What happens

Rachel Turner, a painter, is hanging a new picture with her companion Miss Briggs when they visit a framing shop run by Mr. Putney. Rachel becomes unsettled by a set of paintings by a painter named Turner, and afterward she finds herself troubled by fragments of memory she cannot place. She is haunted by a sense of having done something terrible, and her memories of a train journey and the days around her birthday on April 16 remain confused. Under the questioning of a doctor, she struggles to recall what happened, and the account stays uncertain as her memories are pieced together. The episode is from the Suspense series, first broadcast on May 19, 1957, with a cast that includes Irene Tedrow, Raymond Lawrence, John White and Richard Hill.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
